MALAE: Say NO to drugs but say YES to ...!

I am as a Funny guy among all scholars in Philippines : when you look at me, it resembles many things. Everyone has different impression on me. If you have ever meet me, you may say that it is really the work of God. My personality, I am always happy, have a fun with colleagues, friends and making joke every day. If you are with me you would never feel lonely but the funny thing with me is that I am is easily get mad, therefore don’t try to hurt me if not I will shake the earth.

I am Frederico Amaral, born to an ordinary peasant couple of Silvino Amaral and Carminda de Araujo. Both of my parents currently residing in my hometown Suai Covalima (it is a western district of Timor-Leste) Special in Foho-lulic. I was born on April 2nd 1988 a day after the fool’s day. Since I was child, I just stay in Foho-Lulic and I was spent much my time in dealing with farmers stuff with my siblings. I have two brothers and six sisters.

Even I was born in to a farmer couple, but I have a great hope to my own future, my family and my country. And as we all know that education is a way someone can change one’s life. Besides, there are a lot of evidences shown that education has brought significant changes in many people’s life. It is a single path of life has been taken by numerous of people with a hope that one day we would have a better life than as it used to be. By this simple thought, I also take education to go trough in order to reach my dream. I started involve in education world when I was in the age of seven. After he finished my primary school in Foho-Lulic, I continued to Junior High school for 3 years at St. Luis Gonzaga Suai. After that, instead pursued to Senior high school at Technical Professional School in Suai (Akar-Laran) , I took a different way with my elders siblings who were studying in Senior High School. Just to be different with them, that was the reason why I took up a course so-called “Técnica Industria e Comérçio [Technical Industry and Commerce]” in the Technical and Professional School of Suai. I study mainly about fishery and some introductory subjects in the field of Agriculture. After I ended up the study in that school in 2007, a year after the political and military crisis in Timor-Leste, I went down to the Capital city of Timor-Leste to continue my study in UNTL (National university of Timor-Leste). There, I enrolled in the college of Agriculture especially under department of Animal science. In his college life, I have different style how to survive or to deal difficulties in life. I go to school as my schoolmates do but aside from that, I do informal education as well. Since in High school, I did some English courses to improve my ability of speaking said language. I did the same thing in college. I involved in some institutions who offer English course program. I kept on trying to level up my English ability in terms of speaking, writing and listening as well. Aside from that, the amazing thing with me is that I shared what I have. I taught with very limit English I have for those who need it, I taught in “village”where I used to stay.

Everyone has different hope in his/her own life. Commonly they called me “Malae”[literally means foreigner or stranger] have a hope that one day I should study abroad, no matter wherever it is as long as I gets out of Timor-Leste. I have been planting such dream in my mind which encourages myself to keep fighting to get a way for my dream. Finally, I managed to get it when there was an announcement of scholarship from the Ministry of Education and Culture (MEC). Among approximately 2000 applicants for scholarship, I am also one of the luckiest guy because out of that total they picked up only around 200 applicants who are consider as eligible candidate for scholarship. From 200 candidates, 109 students are sent to the Philippines, around 50 students in Portugal and some are in Australia and New Zealand for graduate students. So, “Malae" also one of those who are in the Philippines. Now I am studying in Benguet State University (BSU) and taking up Veterinary Medicine.

The name “malae” is not strange to any Timorese students in this Archipelago country. From the highest official’s representative of Timor-Leste down to the students they know who really “malae” is. They know me well just because of my unique characteristic that I have. My joking motto is: “Say NO to drugs but say YES to chicks”!

THE END

Pencil Parable

The Pencil Maker took the pencil aside, just before putting him into thebox. There are 5 things you need to know, he told the pencil, before I send you out into the world. Always remember them and never forget, and you will become the best pencil you can be.
 1.      You will be able to do many great things, but only if you allow yourself to be held in someone’s hand.
 2.       You will experience a painful sharpening from time to time, but you'll need it to become a  better pencil.
 3.      You will be able to correct mistakes you will make.
 4.      The most important part of you will always be what's inside.
 5.      On every surface you are used on, you must leave your mark. No matter what the condition, you must continue to write.
The pencil understood and promised to remember, and went into the box with purpose in its heart.

Now replacing the place of the pencil with you; always remember them and never forget, and you will become the best person you can be.
 1.      You will be able to do many great things, but only if you allow yourself to be held in God's hand. And allow other human beings to access you for the many gifts you possess.
 2.     You will experience a painful sharpening from time to time, by going through various problems,but you'll need it to become a stronger person.
 3.    You will be able to correct mistakes you might make or grow through them.
 4.    The most important part of you will always be what's on the inside. And
 5.    On every surface you walk, you must leave your mark. No matter what the situation, you must continue to serve God in everything.

By understanding and remembering, let us proceed with our life on this earth having a meaningful purpose in our heart and a relationship with God daily.

Preamble

Following the liberation of the Timorese People from colonization and illegal occupation of the Maubere Motherland by foreign powers, the independence of East Timor, proclaimed on the 28th of November 1975 by Frente Revolucionária do Timor-Leste Independent (FRETILIN), is recognized internationally on the 20th of May 2002.

The preparation and adoption of the Constitution of the Democratic Republic of East Timor is the culmination of the historical resistance of the Timorese People intensified following the invasion of the 7th of December 1975.

The struggle waged against the enemy, initially under the leadership of FRETILIN, gave way to more comprehensive forms of political participation, particularly in the wake of the establishment of the National Council of the Maubere Resistance (CNRM) in 1987 and the National Council of Timorese Resistance (CNRT) in 1998.

The Resistance was divided into three fronts.

The armed front was carried out by the glorious Forças Armadas de Libertação Nacional de Timor-Leste (FALINTIL) who’s historical undertaking is to be praised.

The action of the clandestine front, astutely unleashed in hostile territory, involved the sacrifice of thousands of lives of women and men, especially the youth, who fought with abnegation for freedom and independence.

The diplomatic front, harmoniously carried out all over the world, enabled the paving of the way for definitive liberation.

In its cultural and humane perspective, the Catholic Church in East Timor has always been able to take on the suffering of all the People with dignity, placing itself on their side in the defense of their most fundamental rights.

Ultimately, the present Constitution represents a heart-felt tribute to all martyrs of the Motherland. Thus, the Members of the Constituent Assembly, in their capacity as legitimate representatives of the People elected on the 30th of August 2001. Based on the results of the referendum of the 30th of August 1999 organized under the auspices of the United Nations which confirmed the self-determined will for independence;

Fully conscious of the need to build a democratic and institutional culture proper appropriate to a State based on the rule of law where respect for the Constitution, for the laws and for democratically elected institutions constitute its unquestionable foundation;

Interpreting the profound sentiments, the aspirations and the faith in God of the People of East Timor;

Solemnly reaffirm their determination to fight all forms of tyranny, oppression, social, cultural or religious domination and segregation, to defend national independence, to respect and guarantee human rights and the fundamental rights of the citizen, to ensure the principle of the separation of powers in the organization of the State, and to establish the essential rules of multi-party democracy, with a view to building a just and prosperous nation and developing a society of solidarity and fraternity.

The Constituent Assembly, meeting in plenary session on the 22nd of March 2002, approves and decrees the following Constitution of the Democratic Republic of East Timor
